Bernard Eisert participates in bingo.

From June 11-15, several residents from Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette, Indiana, took part in the 2018 Senior Games.

The mission of the Senior Games is to encourage physical and mental activity. Each June, approximately 600 individuals age 50 and older from within an eight-county area come together to participate in friendly competitions. Heritage Healthcare helps sponsor the event.

Games run the gamut from sports to board and card games. They include bingo, euchre, shuffleboard, bowling, pickleball, golf, track and field, swimming and darts.

Heritage Healthcare resident Bernie Eisert attends the games annually.

“I enjoy coming to the Senior Games every year,” Eisert said. “I get to see my friends, and I love playing bingo and interacting with others. Win or lose, we have a great time.”

Winners of each game received medals at the week’s closing ceremony at The Trails, a banquet hall in West Lafayette, as all participants got to enjoy a meal together.

“I did not win a gold medal, but I sat next to a friend who did,” said resident Ruth Vaughn. “I look forward to next year’s games.”
