“Take me out to the ball game…”
That’s just what Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette, Indiana, did for residents and associates on May 16, 2015. A large group attended the baseball game between Purdue University and Penn State, and one resident in particular enjoyed a magical moment.
“We bought 50 tickets to share with residents, associates, family and friends, and the officials allowed us to select one person from the group to throw the first pitch,” said Bonnie Anderson, activity director.
Resident Carl Dominique was chosen for the honor.
“Carl loves baseball,” said Anderson. “He was an easy pick.”
“I did not realize how far out the pitcher’s mound was,” said Dominique. “I enjoyed walking out there with the pretty blonde.”
With sunshine, ball field snacks and a home team win, the group enjoyed the whole experience. Purdue was down by several runs, but they rallied and ended up winning 7-3.
“It was interesting watching the baseball players that eventually may go pro,” said former resident John Stovall.
“The smell of the hot dogs, the enthusiasm from the crowd and the friendships made for a great day,” added resident Ruth Vaughn.
